I ordered a new starter from
O'Rileys,and cause I have nothing
to lose we opened the old one up.
Looks like it's simple to
rebuild?!? Am I thinking this out
wrong? 4 screws and 4 square head
bolts and swap parts? What do
y'all see that I don't know. ?
Starter quit working unless you
tapped it with hammer. Then it was
slow! Key stuck on "crank " I
didn't catch it for about 5
minutes. Not sure if that led to
it's demise ?

On many of them you need a real big soldering iron to be able to put in new brushes and a solder gun is not big enough. But good chance new bearing/bushing and new brushes will fix it if you can do the soldering that is. Most people do not have a big enough soldering iron to do the work. I have tried with a soldering gun but it was not big enough

So ...Let em have it ? Save me the
core charge. New one was 100 bucks
at O'Rileys 20 bucks core
charge. Thought we could rebuild
this one and have a spare. I
believe it's same starter on 960.
My wife pointed out that the new
one is life time warranty so why
fool with old one. Darn ....She is right again. Lol
