hello im looking at a 2011 New Holland WM55 it says its 55 horse power what size cutter would work good with this tractor ?

That tractor should handle a 6' cutter.
If you will be mowing tall thick underbrush/grass you may need to take less of a cut.

if its 55 engine hp,, it will be around 44 pto hp... as others said, it will handle a 6 foot rotary cutter well,, it should handle an 7 foot also. If its a hydro drive, back up to a 6 foot as the tranny will suck a bit of hp.

I regular run an 8 foot cutter on a ford 4000 with 48 pto hp and it does well in my coastal fields each spring.

(quoted from post at 08:42:31 04/05/17) We run a 7' on McCormick 47HP, takes it fine and covers the wheels.

I run a 7' on a Massey Ferguson 135 with 45hp with no problems. Like David G said it covers the wheels (wider than the tractor). I'm looking for a 8' for my 135 to do pastures with.

I had a puter crash just now getting back on here . I m going to pass on that tractor I think I want something to pull a 10 ft cutter. I already have a 3000 ford with a 6ft cutter that does ok with it thanks for your time and effort

General rule of thumb that I have heard all of my life has been:

1 foot of cutter per 5 PTO HP for max width minus 1.

Example would be 30 PTO HP would: 30 PTO HP divided by 5 = 6 foot minus 1 foot = 5 Foot cutter max.

Please correct me if I have been mis-informed on this one. Been taught that from way back.
