3 point lift on my Ford 3000

My 3 point system lets the implement drop slowly when I turn the tractor off. When its running the implement will drop a little them lift back up. Any comments? When ever I'm done I do drop the implement.

It is probably the seals in the lift piston.
The fix is to remove the lift cover and
renew the piston seals.
They sell the kit here on YT.
Remember: no dope, pucky, silicone or other
sealant on the gasket.

I agree with Ultradog, probably leaking past the lift piston. When it is running the position control linkage sences the drop and opens up the control valve, thus lifting it back up to where the touch handle is telling to be. When it is not running it cannot d o that and so it continues to drop.

I note that you said this:

Why do you leave the lift arms raised when you turn off the tractor? All that does is put unnecessary stress on the system. When you do that gravity is pulling down on the implement and that weight is causing pressure on the seals. Pressure on the seals is what causes them to eventually wear out. Having pressure on the seals while you are doing work is unavoidable, but having pressure on the seals while the tractor is sitting and not running, sometimes days or weeks at a time, is completely avoidable simply by lowering the implement to the ground when the tractor is parked.

It is also much safer to lower the implement to the ground when you park it as there are a number of things that could happen that might cause the implement to lower suddenly and unexpectedly and something might get damaged, or more importantly, someone could be injured or even killed.

I had the same issue. When I pulled the lift cover I found the leather backup washer missing from the lift piston and the o-ring was broken in half. I'm not really sure how it was working as well as it was
in the shape it was in. If you pull the cover to fix it, do as the others have suggested and get the seal kit and reseal the whole top cover. Get yourself a cam follower pin and replace it while you are in
there, you'll appreciate it later. Also, the unload valve could be sticking. It's not a hard fix while it's apart. There 2 pistons used on that valve. One used a steel ring to seal, the other used an o-
ring. If yours has the o-ring, that one is NOT in any kit sold, it's a separate part that you need to get. It's a couple bucks. My email is open if you have any questions.

I raise it for maintenance when I shut it off. I've had both hips replaced and bending over makes it awkward. I always lower it when finished and its lowered when i shut it down. Thanks for the heads up. Primarily I needed to know if the fix is minor or major. Looks like a minor fix.
Is there a special tool needed or just the standard set?

I am not 100% sure on this but I believe that it is better for the seals for the lift to be kept up. We know that almost all of the wear on the seals is the movement up an down in the cylinder, especially when a little contamination is introduced. If it is a lip type seal the pressure, which is of course tiny compared to when it has a full load, will help to keep the seal pressed against the wall keeping it in its working shape. A seal that has a nearly symmetric point cross section would not be as susceptible as a lip type to getting relaxed without a load but the same effect is there to a lesser degree. So the lift should be always left up just as they are on the dealers lot, in transit and on virtually every farm where they are in use. I'll be that I see fifty stored in the up position for everyone that I see down. This does not apply to when an implement is mounted of course.

Guess Ill be pulling the lift cover and replacing the seals on my piston also.. It does exactly as you described but also jumps around at times.

Can you elaborate on what a cam follower pin is? Cant find that yet and I wouldnt know what it is to replace it anyway.
