A friend of mine has a late 5000 SOS that needs a shift cable, and maybe the shifter. He's retired from dairying, and doesn't need
the 5000 much for his cash cropping, but would like to be able to use it. Hasn't had any luck at Worthington Ag Parts or ASAP in
Downing.
He's also wondering about swapping out the SOS for an 8-speed. That would mean the whole rear half on a 5000, right?

There is a difference between a cable for a 5100 and a cable for a 5200. Both show to be still available from New Holland on Messick's website.

They are expensive, especially for the 5200; but don't think they'd be as costly as swapping to an 8 speed. An SOS in any 5000 is about as bulletproof as one can get to boot!

Not sure what all may be needed for the swap but the shifters and cables come up on eBay now and then. If he's not in a big hurry to get it fixed I would hunt for the parts a bit longer. I have a 65 5000 SOS that needs some tranny TLC that I grew up on and the last thing I want to do is pull the SOS. Just my 2cents worth Greg NE

I'm seeing NLS on #27 in the parts diagram. Of course, I need to double check on exactly which part(s) he needs.

Still shows available on Messick's. $74.83

If he needs the actual cable & not just the conduit I believe u need #15 not #27. Unfortunately that changes the price quite a bit!!! Can U say highway robbery!!!!!

I suspect you are correct, although the drawing would make it appear 27 was inclusive. But I did think they were being extremely reasonable for an assembly on the price of 27.

When Messick's lists a price and shows "3-7 business days" it just means that they don't have it in stock and does not indicate whether that part is still available or not. partspring.com shows both the cable (15) and the conduit (27) as being unavailable.

If NH and Partspring both show it as unavailable... I guess we're back to looking for used or at a transmission swap.

I know the SOS in the 5000 is way different than the one in the 3/4000,but did they happen to use the same shift cable? That would make it easier to find a used one.
Tried NH parts site... apparently it's down again - I couldn't connect.

No. Sorry. The real differences in the 5000 SOS and all others are two.

1. The control valve is on the bottom in the oil sump, whereas all other models have the control valve on top not surrounded by oil.

2. The PTO is not part of the transmission.

OK I called Messicks. They don't have the part. It is NLS. However, their dealer locator shows two dealers who claim to have one. If interested, shoot me an email. My email should be open in modern view.

I don't see your email... mine is open.
I'm sure the price is going to be big, but Lynn wants to be able to use the tractor, so...

Is that a type of cable that can be made? Tewco cable craft in the franklin industrial park in wi. They make all sorts of cables. That is all they do. Phone number is 414 4238080, fax 414 423 8086 or 1 800 558 8730. If this helps at all .

Not sure, but would highly doubt anyone can make this cable.

It would be great if somebody could talk to them about it and then Dennis Carpenter may be induced to get them made as they did the SOS filters that were unavailable a few years ago.
