need to know bolt size that holds hood down on ford 4000 diesel 1964 year at front of tractor takes 4 bolts I can find rear bolts that holds dash and hood but not front bolts thanks

a little more info is needed. Let's make sure you have the year correct. Is it a 4 cylinder engine model or a 3 cylinder?

If it is indeed a '64 with a 4 cylinder engine, you must be talking about the bolts that fasten the top of the hood to the front side panels or doglegs????

If a 3 cylinder, I don't know enough about them to comment.

Must be Royce is correct in that it's a row crop then?

If so, "Procure locally 3/8-16 x 1-1/8 round head" Also takes a 3/8 lock washer. This round head cap screw should have #4 Phillips head.

Fastenal would be your best bet for a bolt like this. I don't know if the holes in the pedestal are blind or not, but guess they would be. If they are an over length bolt may bottom out before becoming tight. Therefore a 1" bolt may be better than 1¼.

they are 5/16" NC (going from memory, might be 3/8" NC) - - originals (that I've seen) are flange headed with a 9/16 head - (I've 4 of these tractors)

I replace those original bolts with allen head bolts - much easier to access and R&R - - purists feel free to criticize - -

if any have been left out for any length of time the hole is probably filled with 'stuff' - use a small bit on a drill to loosen the mud, blow out with compressed air, clean out with a bottoming tap -
