Ford 600 oil pick-up

When I removed the oil drain plug from a Ford 600 engine, the one we are working on has just a tube for a pick-up. Looks like a straw and about that diameter. Is there supposed to be a screen or some type of "pre-pick up" item on that tube? The oil drain plug is huge, like 3 inches across and it seems like something is missing on the pick-up tube. Maybe I'm thinking about a different tractor but it seems like the 960 I did was different. I need to check the manual but thought I'd ask while it's on my mind.

thanks in advance, MODAY

I was expecting an old pick up screen and for sure, it's a tube.

Let me ask this, does the screen come off of the tube and is something that I can put back on if I can buy one..assume it's not in the oil pan but maybe I should look there too. Tractor is a big project and I don't have much history on it.

thank in advance, MODAY

All one piece, sounds like the screen broke off the tube.
Parts search shows two different screens, all 600's should have the early screen unless the gear pump was changed to a rotor pump at some time.
Ford changed to the rotor pump in 61 and the older gear pump is NLS.

The drain plug should have a screen attached to it which fits inside the shell of the pickup tube.
