Ford 660 Carburetor Popping

I am restoring a 1955 Ford 660 Tractor that I acquired from my father. The tractor sat for about 20 years so it's become quite a project. After changing the oil, plugs, wires, points and condenser, rebuilding the starter, I have the tractor running. The carburetor is making a popping sound, but the engine is running relatively smooth. No backfire from the exhaust. I did rebuild the carb recently, but did not replace the venturi tube and I noticed it was cracked. Has anyone experienced something like this? Also, when I play with the jets, it doesn't seem to help.

That could be caused by a couple of things.
#1 does choking it hurt to help?? If it helps good chance it is running to lean and you missed something in the carb. If it does not matter or hurts it then
#2 you may have a valve that is not closing all the way so you get a pop from engine firing

Is the popping regular and does it correspond with engine RPM?

If so, check for a sticking or burnt intake valve or a bent or otherwise damaged exhaust valve push rod or rocker arm.

Pulling the choke does help. I'll take the carb back apart. It was in very bad shape when I rebuilt it. Lots of rust. Would that cracked tube cause the fuel mixture issues?

Yes, the popping is regular and it corresponds with engine RPM. Hope it's the fuel mixture, but I do hear the valves tapping some.

The way I clean carb is soak then spray with carb cleaner spray then use a small piece of wire or as I do a torch tip cleaner tool to poke out all the passageways and then more spray and compressed air. If you don;t poke the passageways out you can and will leave dirt/rust in them and that will cause problems big time
