Ford 850 - Leaky PTO Shaft After New Seal

Installed new seal and proper gear oil in my 850. I am getting a couple of ounces of gear oil leaking out with tractor just sitting during rest of restore.

I have not ran the pto shaft yet. Will it "run-in" or probably just get worse? I am guessing the shaft must be slightly worn where the old seal turned against it.

I am pretty deep into this thing, and the new shaft with seal is $130 here in YT. Should I bite the bullet now?

Make sure you didn't mess up the seal on the install first. If everything is put together properly and still leaking, my guess is shaft is worn enough you won't fix it without replacing the shaft.

Before you do that . . .
I was convinced that my Jubilee PTO shaft seal was weeping, but it turned out to be one of the top two bolt holes in the differential where the swinging drawbar plate mounts. I drained some lube to lower the level and put thread sealant on the bolts.
My diff had also been overfilledl to begin with.

If you are replacing the seal you are best to replace the wear collar too. About $6 but the right way to go.

It looks like this sleeve is press fit on the shaft. I assume that means heat to be able to remove and replace a new one. Correct?

Looser than press fit, more like a slip fit. Push it in with a PVC pipe or if you don't have the tools it can carefully tapped on with a small punch. When changing the seal I always install a new collar and usually the bearing too.

I measure my pto shaft at 1-3/8 OD to the outside of the splines. However, the circlip that is sold here on YT as the replacement parts to lock the bearing in place is too large for my housing. I had to re-use my old circlip.

Something seems odd here. Any ideas?
