Where to get a decent muffler for hundred series

My father put a new genuine Ford muffler on our 850 back in 1977 right after he bought the tractor. Was nice and quiet even with just a turnout
on the end of it until it rusted out about 10-12 years ago. Then I bought one of those Stanley mufflers at TS because they were cheap and in
stock. I put it on and was sorry because the Ford muffler was quieter with the end rusted out than the new one. I would have put the old one
back on if it here would have been enough left of it. I put up with the noise for a few years and finally ordered a Nelson (pn#15288T) one from
my local Fleetpride store. It definitely wasn't cheap but was quiet like the Ford one. Nelson makes a lot of Oem stuff and maybe made the
Ford one. When I took the Stanley muffler off the 850 I put it on my 640 which just had a straight pipe. Sounded about the same afterward.
Now I am in the process of painting the 640 and would like to have a quiet muffler. Thing is now Nelson goes by Nelson Global Products and
we can guess what that means. I am not even sure a New Holland muffler is going to be any better than anything else from what I've seen on
eBay. . Does anyone know where I can get a muffler and know for sure it is not the same crappy mufflers that just about everyone sells
because they are cheap? Are the one CNH sells anything like they used to be? Thanks.

I understand your pain. The original muffler on my 871 lasted for about 35 years. (I keep the tractor inside when not using it). About 5 years ago, it finally rusted out, so, being in a hurry, I went to TSC and put on a cheapie. Thing sounded like two Harley Davidsons drag racing. Threw that away after a couple of years, and put this on:

Steiner muffler

I bought one for my 960 from this site & am very happy with it sounding like a Ford! The last time I bought one was from a local after market supplier & it was like a straight pipe sound. Never again!

I bought a muffler for my 4 cylinder 4000 from CNH about 10 years ago.

Yes, it was more expensive than the aftermarket units but no issues and still looks nearly new.

I accidentally bought an IH muffler at TSC once. Attempting to look through it indicated that there was no "through flow" like you had on a "glass packed" car muffler. 3000D just wouldn't run with it. I knocked out the tang that was blocking the thru flow and it allowed the tractor to run. After an accident I decided to get another. This time is was the right one for the Ford and you could see through it. Great muffler, great price.

Try TSC. They have quite a few parts for 100 and 1000 series Fords.

Dennis Carpenter sells mufflers for hundred series with original style ford logo, supposed to be reproductions of originals.
I plan to get one for my 881D the original has the end broke and leaks exhaust.

i have an aftermarket tisco on my 860 and had the Dennis carpenter ford repo on my 640. Can say for sure the ford repop fit better. Had to massage the end of the tisco a bit. But both installed I noticed no difference in sound.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know there were this many options. Whenever I have looked almost every one I have seen are the Stanley mufflers. I can identify them by the unique way the crimp the ends on. Gives me a lot to consider. Thanks again.
