The large wire from solenoid to
starter is cracked bad. There is a
metal tag hanging off the choke cable
when it touches starter it sparks.
Want to replace wire but only ones
I can find in town are 4 gauge.
Guys at parts store say if it
works on a car should work on
tractors? Wire is smaller than one
on it now.also new battery cable are 4 gauge.

If it's still 6V, order the larger cables. YT sells them.
Any decent auto store can make them for you or you can make
your own. The guys at the stores know nothing of 6V systems.

If it is 12V, a car cable might work just fine.

Either way, I would want to stop that arcing.
Why not at least remove the tag? As far as I know the 640
didn't have a choke "cable" so the cable and tag are probably
not original equipment that need to be saved at this point.

that metal tag is possibly an original bracket that should be bolted under the upper/outside starter bolt - it holds the choke rod in alignment, I guess - often are missing and the choke still works - in any case, you should get it away from the starter terminal - does it look like the piece to the upper left of this photo?

Choke rod would be more in line with original.
Not to play semantics, but they do get modified over the years.
The metal piece then may be a bracket that should be bolted down.
And the automotive cable would probably work just fine on 12V.

Most good auto parts stores will have 2 gauge battery cables which is fine for 12 volt systems. Ya if your looking at say auto zone or as I call them auto clone you best find an O'Reilly's or NAPA

O'Rileys didn't have em. Will try Napa tomorrow. That 4 gauge looks way small. Was too cold to tinker with it today. So I stayed in and baked bread for lasgna supper at church tomorrow.

"That 4 gauge looks way small."

Do you have a V8 powered truck with a 12V system?
What size cables are on that?
No harm in going bigger, that's for sure.
Especially if you're in a cold weather climate.

Bread looks good! :)
Are the ones on the right corn bread?
