trying to figure out if this could be a good deal or not. I assume probably not since it has been for sale for awhile now.

I can tell from the pics is had power steering, they said its gas. Cant tell what trans it has? all the pics are taken at angles you cant see the shifter except 1. hoping its a 8 spd but I only see 1 shifter. can anyone figure out what trans it has by the pics?

also, price, high/ average? tractor is very close to my dad, practically a neighbor so that's one bonus is its so close I could drive it home

Looks like a dual stick tranny, although only one stick is visible in the second picture, but it is definitely not the single stick 4 speed, so it is either a 6 or 8 speed, both of which are very good transmissions.

That definitely looks like good price with the sickle bar mower. If you want the tractor and not the mower, you could probably resell the mower for $1000.00 to $1500.00 easily. I'm just outside of Philadelphia and if I were any closer I would be buying it for the mower and reselling the tractor.

Given it has P/S, and I on that fact alone... I'd guess that it's an 8 speed. My theory being that if they were too cheap to buy P/S, they'd
be too cheap to order the 8 speed.

Not a 4 spd stick so ether 6 or 8 spd
That 451 mower is the best sickle bar mower made, I've had one for nearly thirty years, check the wobble bearings and crank pin for looseness, that gets a little pricey to rebuild.
Still use mine for trim work, most of our hay is now cut with disc mowers but in good clean hay that 451 will run with a disc mower.
NH still makes 451 sickle bar mowers, they had one at the farm machinery show celebrating 50 years of production.

'65 through '75 is right, but there were changes along
the way. If that is the original hood, it's a mid-'68 or
newer. It also has a plastic grill. I think those started
around '70 or '71.

According to my parts book, that plastic grill style started production on 1/71, so it is a 1971-1975 tractor. Look on the underside of the right side hood panel above the battery to see if the foil sticker is still there. On the sticker look for the Model Number, Unit Number and Tractor Number, and post them back here. The Model number is a coded string that tells exactly which options it came with from the factory and should start with B10 followed by two more numerals and a final letter. The Unit Number is a code that tells us exactly when the tractor left the assembly line. The first digit of the Unit Number is the year that the tractor was made, so if it starts with a 1 then it was made in 1971, if it starts with a 2 then 1972, etc. up through a 5 for 1975. The Tractor Number is the serial number and probably starts with the letter C followed by 6 numerals.

The visible stick is taller than the usual range shifter that should be visible from that angle. But a 4 speed single stick wouldn't show at all. So
put me in the 6 or 8 speed camp. No guarantee at all that it has live PTO. Could be an aftermarket replacement shift cover with a taller range
shifter. They do exist.
