Can someone decipher that model number for
me?
Build date 3H29B.
It's a 4600 derivative of some sort.
Has ipto and 3 point.
Helacious big loader on it with subframe,
etc. 4500 style front end but bydrostatic
steering. Hard nose.
545? 545A?
445?
Forgot to take any pictures of it.
Thanks

DD4 = 545A Industrial 1984-1988
1 = Diesel
4 = Ind. 540 rpm
K ? 6x4 manual reversing

3H29B would be a August 29,1983 second shift build date, was this date code for the unit? or for a component?

Was the build date on the trans - usual place.
Had a 10 series engine in it. Engine was a different color yellow. I assumed a swap or rebuild?
Was 28? and 28 mph winds here today and I wasn't dressed for it - too cold to linger looking for other clues.
Straddle tractor, hard nose,

As JoeM said, DD4 is a 545A, which replaced the 545, which in turn replaced the 535, which replaced the 4500, so the hard nose is correct for the model. If the engine is the only thing that's a different color then it sounds like everything but the engine is a 545A. It should have the extremely heavy duty front axle style like the 4500 also.

Thanks fellas.
Ok, so from what I learned in my post above it had a BSD transplant as it had the cross bracing on the side of the block.
I'm going to get some more info on it in a week or two.

When I picked up my 4500 in 2000 it had a late 70's replacement engine and that engine was worn out.
Lots of industrial machines are owned by big companies with multiple operators that don't care how they treat the machines.

BSD-s come blue from the factory. There should be blue underneath the yellow. Also, the sticker on the valve cover is quite resilient. It should say BSD Model 333H.

I don't think a 1983 built 545A had the updated block but one built later could have.

When my brother worked for the Ford dealer that sold/repaired the TLB's to/for the city. My brother said he replaced a lot of old engines with BSD "crate" engines, they kept 5 of them in stock just in case.

dealer I was parts mgr at in Atlanta back in the 80's & 90's always kept 8-10 BSD_333's & BSD-333H's in stock, I remember we got $3,200.00 for them plus installation, most of our customers couldn't afford the downtime for a rebuild w/machine work. Sure wish I bought a couple to put up!

My brother could have got 10 of them at one time for free, but they all went to the scrapper instead. I sure could have used parts from some of them to build a engine for my TLB.
