8n starter solenoid issue

Good afternoon y'all. I just recently had my
8N not start and after reading this forum
figure it out it was the starter solenoid. I
got a new starter solenoid from Tractor
Supply. It was a 6 volt 3 post just like the
one that was on the tractor originally. Got
it all hooked up but when I put the positive
cable on the battery, it wants to turn over
I'm sure I got a wire crossed but I'm not
sure where any advice is appreciated... by
the way this was converted to 12 volt if
that makes any difference.

Disconnect the small terminal wire & try again. If it still tries to crank over when battery connected, then while doing the cranking, wrap the solenoid with a big handle screwdriver & see if it stops.

found this while digging further... maybe the fusible link?

ok upon further inspection... the metal bracket that it is attached to it believe is grounding out the starter which is why I believe it is trying to start sans key. but that means I don't have a way to mount the new starter solenoid with the starter motor. could use maybe some rubber washers? pic is after removal and hooking up of the battery.

also makes me think the carb is bad or needs adjusting if it won't Fire.

An 8N using the original starter button will roll over without
the key being on. The key only provides power to the ignition.

The picture is of a ceramic resistor. It also feeds the ignition
on a tractor that is converted to 12V using the original 6V coil.
That resistor would have no effect on your solenoid or starter,
but it would keep you from getting power to the coil causing
a no spark/no start condition.

Did you disconnect the small wire and rap the solenoid?
Some of those cheap TSC solenoids also had a manual button
on the end that you could press to start them. Is it stuck in?
I don't see how grounding the starter would cause it to engage.
Grounding the small terminal would though.
