Distributor oil leak on jubilee

Hello,
I think I may be missing an o ring or seal where my distributor goes into the block. Oil leaks from that area pretty good. I have looked at various parts on here and elsewhere an can't find a distributor o ring. Does that part exist and does that sound like what I'm missing? I could get an o ring anywhere I guess. Can I just mark and pull the distributor and slide an o ring on and put it back (sorry for the potentially dumb question). I'm relatively new to jubilees and there parts. I appreciate any advice.

Yes, from Messick's

O-RING, 1.109" ID x 0.14" Width 1.109" ID x .139" Thk,

Base to Block

Part # 134372 $1.33 86 in stock

You should have no problem pulling the distributor and pulling the O-ring with one of your dental pics. Just don't allow the motor to turn, and index the rotor to a spot inside. Leave the cap and wires on the plugs. Before you start put a good scratch or punch a pair of witness marks so that you don't loose your timing.

Verify that the oil is not being blown out of the breather.

If the engine is badly worn, crankcase pressure will blow oil out the breather tube in front of the distributor. The engine fan will then blow the oil backward onto the distributor. Quite common.

You may also want to check that the tapper cover gasket(s) is/are not leaking.

Thank you for the reply. I replaced the distributor o ring today and it seems to have stopped most of the oil. I checked out the breather tube like you mentioned and oil might be coming out from where the tube mounts in the engine case. Not to long ago I put a new breather filter on the tube so I checked the filter in there and it looks clean. I'm going to degrease it good and watch for oil spots.

How is the tube mounted in the engine block? Could it leak from there as well? Thank you for your help.

I tried to get one out one time but it didn't want to come. I didn't try very hard because I didn't need to have it out. It is just a press fit, and I can't imagine that it would loosen up. If you find that yours is loose I expect that with new one in hand you could get the old one out by driving something like a screwdriver through it and twisting it. It is so thin that I would not hope to get it out without ruining it. Once you get the area cleaned up I doubt that you will find any oil coming from it.

I appreciate it. I went out and looked at it and Dean mentioned the tapper gasket? If thats the cover on the side behind the distributor and the breather then I do believe that it could be leaking. I've been looking at gaskets and I think that its the valve rocker arm gasket, does that sound right? I think that I'll replace that gasket before worrying about the breather tube. I like the idea of using a screw driver though. I will keep that in mind if this doesn't stop the oil leak.
Thank you for your help.

No. The rocker arm cover is on the top of the engine. The tappet cover is on the side of the engine.

The valve cover gasket is far and away the most likely culprit. It is normally cork, and doesn't take a lot of pressure, then it hardens so that it doesn't seal, so you get a leak. It is exacerbated by the fact that the front of the tractor usually lower than the back, so the oil runs down the front then as Dean said the fan blows it back. The valve cover gasket needs to be snugged occasionally. My restored 901 has a rubber gasket but I have not been able to find where I got it.
