There is some air coming back in the air filter stack
enough to blow some snow on the hood.

Is it normal ?

Engine runs good and strong.

Thanks in advance

Bart

Any time you see "popping back" on the intake side can be a sign the exhaust side has issues, clearance too loose, broken exhaust arm, worn rockers, worn cam lobe. Any time the exhaust does not open fully there will be some trapped cylinder charge that will then pop back when the intake opens. Dad had a Perkins that happened to, was a broken exhaust rocker arm.

Many thanks Dieseltech

I will open the valve cover and check items you mentionned.

Thanks again !!!

Bart

leaking intake valve will allow compression to back feed into manifold.. check for too tight valve settings as well.

What makes the three cylinders more prone to push rod or rocker arm failure than the four cylinders when they have the same push rods and rocker arms.
Guess I've been lucky, I've been into a few dozen of these engines over the years (3 and 4 cyl), I've only found one bent push rod but no broken rocker arms.
