Three cylinder oil filter

The canister original equipment type -

The new filter comes with three gaskets - a large one for the canister to block and a rubber one that fits around the bolt and a fiber one that fits around the bolt -

Where does the rubber one and the fiber one go? I've cleaned up the canister and find the bolt hole to bolt sealing surface to be 'countersunk' - see pictures - is this the way it should be or is it punched in from years of people over tightening the bolt? The bolt had an interesting collection of sealing substances associated with that area - cleaned up now and I'm wondering if I need to adjust the canister....

I suspected so - - and a look at the parts book reveals I am missing the spring and retainer that goes around the bolt and holds the filter against the block - - which means the machine has been running for years effectively without an oil filter...looks like I can get those parts new, looks like it'll be $30+ and a week - -

easy thing to do is to convert to the spin-on - and then it'll use the same filter as all the other Fords - that'll be $40 and take a week to get also...

I think I'll check the spring bin/stop by the hardware today and see if I can figure some way to farm it up - with a little luck I can have it running again today -

I've probably thrown away half a dozen of those cans over the years, to bad your not closer as I still have a couple laying around, I've changed all mine over to spin on but one and it'll get changed this year.

I never figured that out nor knew if I had all the parts after some 20 years of belonging to the PO. Just this month, I changed to the spin on, got
the kit off ebay for about $35 and I run FL-1A or PH8A spin-ons now.
