Last Hair thin line on one side has 2 pin hole leaks about an inch apart, local farmer recommends ground pepper?? I think the radiator my be Oem and was cooling fine and not leaking before I removed it to replace the water pump.

Cheap stuff at Auto Parts place
works fine. Got it in both fords
sealed pin hole leaks in both.
Cost a buck or two. Can't remember
name. Comes in tube. Of course we
ain't farming all day every day
with em. Lol. But we do use em
couple times a week

(quoted from post at 14:08:08 02/22/17) Pepper was used before stop leak was available.
local mechanic said he could solder it, nightmare day spent getting him to solder and it didn't work, worse off than when i started, should've went straight to the pepper...!!

I used a product called radseal here in uk on our dexta it worked for a while and started leaking again so I took it to a one man radiator repairer and I was expecting to make a return visit to fetch it but I left the old unit there and came away with reconditioned unit and that was 14 years ago and no problems

May sound silly but I have used pepper to seal 3 small holes in a radiator on an 871. They were squirting clear back to the operators seat. pepper stopped it instantly and held
for 4 years and was still in it when I sold it.

Ok you guys. This thread got my attention and started me to wondering. Is Pepper Radiator Sealer a brand name? Surely you aren't talking
about table use, ground pepper like you put on your food?????????

I used Bars-Leak back the last time I had a leaking problem. I had a '51 olds and on a trip I started loosing water....was the water pump seal.
Tried to stop it with BL to get to my destination. After awhile I stopped to fill up on water and it was trying to do it's job....was sticking about 1"
out of the weep hole on the front of the pump. Ha!

I have used this JB Weld product in my combine (still holding after 20 years) and in PU (heater core) and in MF275 tractor, all with excellent results. All leaks were smaller than kid's water pistol stream.

Yes it's regular old black pepper that you use on food, my grand dad talked about using it back in the day, a little black pepper would seal the leak and get them back in the field versus spending half a day going to town for some name brand stop leak, on small leaks it works as good as any of the snake oil brands.

As for store bought stop leak personally I like one called Dike made by Conklin.

(quoted from post at 12:03:38 02/23/17) what was the problem soldering it? did he not clean and tin the metal first? didn't drain?
he solderer was drunk and I didn't see him tin it, I did see him flux it though. He tried his cutting torch first but it wouldn't stcick and sent me to get some MAP gas cause he said it was hotter. Actually I think he fixed the leads we saw at first but when we tested again he said their was a leak where he couldn't get to because maybe it was interror.?

I had the car's radiator overheat and start to leak one late cold night a few years ago. Being a long way from home in the middle of nowhere with just a country store open, I was force to put eggs in the
radiator. It sealed up the leak and never had a problem with it leaking again. I used the car for about another year that way, as it was not worth fixing it properly.

So my natural curious next question is, how is it that a person would bring himself to go to the kitchen table and get a shaker of Pepper, pop the
cap on his radiator, and season it????????????? Sorry, I'm about to fall out of my chair laughing.....not knocking it working, just wondering
about the first usage.

ind of reminds me of, "how did people figure out that some plants were poisonous?" "Well, Ma, little Jimmy is the slowest one of our bunch, feed it to him and see what happens."

I've tried my luck at soldering radiators. Problem I had was as I was fixing one spot, the heat would melt another part of the thing, like you are
working on getting the tank back on and a tube turns loose on you. Course if you do it on a daily basis you have all the right tools and expertise
to get-r-done. Course sitting here thinking, if the tubes were mounted with 95-5 and you used 60-40 on the tank there wouldn't be a problem.

Last time I took a radiator to a shop to get the core cleaned out the guy didn't do it any more. Said the EPA shut him down. When I came back
to get it all he had done was to wash out the exterior of the tubes....I could have done that myself for free. Maybe he was just too old and was
quitting the business....had been there for many years and was aged. Only shop in the area.
