Ford 850 - Temp Gauge Location and Drawbar Hitch Mount Issue

I purchased temp gauge that screws into the block somewhere. I cannot find where and have looked in my Ford Manual, the IT manual and online. Can someone post a picture for me? Also, I have read some threads where the ferrule was mis-sized. I bought the gauge right here on YT. Will it work stock?

The 4 bolt holes around my PTO that a drawbar hitch would mount to wallowed out and one is partially broken at the corner of the housing. What is best way fix? Weld studs into the holes and put a nut on the hitch plate to mount it instead of using bolts? Have it machined 1 or 2 sizes larger and threaded...hard to do on a tractor that cannot be mounted in a drill press? Helicoils? ????

I had a similar problem on my 850 with one bolt. Previous owner drilled and tapped it larger, but went too far and though the casting. I ended up using a helicoil of the appropriate size. Had to use some sealant to hold back the oil. If all four are wallowed out you could used the helicoil, but I don't know if the strength would be as original, especially for the hitch. Welding studs would be and option, but the depth of the weld may not be of sufficient strength either for pulling. That would leave having an expert weld them up and re-tap. Another option would be to look for another center and replace. It really depends what you'll be using it for.

on my 960 which I think is the same there was a small collar in there that I don't know about. the new guage would screw in but couldn't get it to stop leaking. member on here told me about the collar that was in there. so I bought an oring and made my own collar. works great. I could not find where any gauges were made in the usa. asked that question on the forum and people told me there wasn't. india or china.

My dad's old 850 had the same problem, first one bolt hole stripped out and we added a helicoil put it wouldn't stay tight, then other holes got wallowed out so we redrilled the housing and hitch plate to the next size and rethreaded the housing. It was that way when my brother sold the tractor in the late 80's. I remember one of the lower holes was cracked and had a chip broke off the lower outside corner.
We where farming 250 acres of crop, hay and pasture plus a little custom work back then with that 850 and a Dexta, we kept them well maintained but they where worked hard.

Hey Destroked. A silly question, have you any pictures of the farming days with
the 850 and the Dexta you would like to share? I for one love to see Ford farming
pictures of yesteryear. We did lots of Ford farming ,but sadly did not take
pictures.

JB, in my opinion the fix for your draw bar support depends on how you are going to use your tractor. Wallowed out holes will not support the weight that the support is designed to support. You will need to close the holes up to the proper size. The easiest way is probably to close them up completely then drill them out new. If you will not be using the draw bar heavy, three bolts in properly sized holes will be fine. If you need more than three holes you can make a plate that will engage not just your three good ones but also your four PTO shaft bolt holes.I made this one some 15 years ago.

You can see the lower right is broken out so there is no screw in that hole.

Mom's got all of the old pics, I know there's some of dad on the old 8N and of us kids on the 850, may be a couple of the Dexta, I'm not sure.
I've got a thread on this site Farming With My Fords that shows pics of my 4000's and 5000 in hay and corn last year.
