Barn find Super Dexta 2000 one owner, all original, paint is good. Tires are all flat been sitting for years, has a 7 ft tufline disc behind it. This fell in the hands of a young lady, I told her that I think she could get $1500 just for the tractor, but I do not know.Very sharp tractor.I think I want it, but I want to pay her a fair price. Are these as good as the other Ford 2000 3cyl diesel? Research a little in a book and I think this could be the 63 or 64 model with the improvement 2400 rpm with 45 HP. How much should I pay her.

I wouldn't pay much ,they are good tractors, but parts are expensive and it sound like it will at least need a full set of tires tires plus seals , and who knows.

The Super Dexta had a 3 cylinder Perkins diesel engine and is not the same as the later 1965+ 3 cylinder Ford engines. They are hard to find parts for here in the US. They were mostly sold in the UK and other parts of Europe.

My uncle used to have one and he swore by it that it was one tough tractor, heard him say once that he got his engine parts when needed through a local Massey Ferguson dealer, he never had a problem that I can remember getting parts over the 40 years he owned it, my aunt was going to sell it to me after he passed but his daughter came home from way off and sold everything at he had at scrap prices before I knew about it

I would like to know how it would perform, to a 2000 4cyl and a 2000 3cyl.I have a 2000 4cyl gas, it is a good tractor but love gas. Which it is a loader tractor with reverser transmission, and no 3pt, just used it for loader work.

The Dexta will work circles around the 2000 4 cyl gas burner all day long, can't say about the 2000 3 cyl diesel comparison , but would imagine that both would be similar in strength...

Other than being a bit light, they will perform more like a 3000... they have everything except power steering... and a 6/2 tranny... but are very nimble, high on horse power, and usually very very good tractors. The only drawback will be parts are a bit hard to find as others have said,, they were sold mostly in england and thats where most of the parts will have to come from.

I am not sure of the value of your tractor, but the Super Dexta was a great tractor in its day. I think the 3cyl Perkins of the Super Dexta is very similer to the 3cyl Perkins of the MF 35 and 135 tractors right down to the same cubic inch. And that engine is often said to be one of the best engines ever built by many. I think the Super Dexta 2000 would be comparable to the Ford 3000 in performance. (I would love to have one)

I'm in south Alabama, parts must be easy
to get cause there's litterly hundreds
of them still running in my area, was a
lot of them sold here in the the early
1960's, very seldom see one for sale
down here as people hang on to them,
I've only seen a couple of the bigger
Super Majors around here but the Dextas
are as about as common as the 8 and 9n
tractors in my rural area...

It compares very closely with the 3000 for horsepower - Nebraska Test #844 put it at 38.8 pto h.p., vs. 39.2 for the 3000 diesel. Its engine displaced 153 c.i. vs. 144 for the older Dexta, and it ran 2250 rpm, vs. 2000 for the Dexta. The Super Dexta's unballasted weight is about 3000 pounds, compared to 4100 pounds for a 3000.

They had the same basic engine as a 135 Massy but use a unique fuel system that was only used on that series of tractors making replacement parts hard to find.
That said they are one of the cheapest operating tractors I ever set on, dad had a Dexta which has a slightly smaller engine, it would pull a set of two bottom plows for over ten hours on the seven gallon tank of fuel, yes fuel tank only held seven gallons.

They don't have the value of a 3000 and if it needs tires $1000 would be my top offer if everything else looks good, would also have to hear it run for that price. If the tires air up, aren't dry rotted and have decent thread, running it's about a $2500 tractor around here.

Sorry to contradict chaps but the Dexta and Super Dexta engines are NOT Perkins. They are Ford F3
units made at Dagenham and assembled by Perkins for Ford. Although some parts are similar to
Perkins parts they are not the same as you will find if you try and fit MF parts.

The injectors and injection pump are not the same as the MF. The oil pump is different but the
Perkins one can be made to fit.

The liners on the Ford have to be pressed in and then rebored once in position. MF liners with a
ridge around the top will fit although the block will have to be counter-bored to take them.

The blocks are different and if an MF block is used a number of spare holes have to be plugged.

I think I read somewhere that Perkins bought the design and/or tooling after Ford quit building the Dexta and Super Dexta. Any truth to that?
I bet the blocks have EnFo cast on them somewhere...Perkins wouldn't do that!

The main advantage of a later Dexta is that low gear
is much slower than the others. Thus it is practical
to use with a rototiller.

By the way, the earlier North American 2000 diesels
were just re-labeled Dextas. The post 1964's were totally
redesigned and are basically a cheapened 3000. Generally,
the low gear is considered too fast.
