641 Power Steering

The power steering on my 641 turns fairly easy to the left, but hard to the right. If I turn slowly it isn't as bad. I changed the filter and oil without much change. Any idea's?
Thanks

I can't say positively but will lay odds the problem is in the hydraulic block in the steering column.
You either have rust/crud in there so the little plungers aren't sliding properly or one of the springs is weak or broken.
Going through the block is not difficult. The worst part is you have to get the steering wheel off and the tin has to come off.
Mark the lines that go to the steering cylinders so you get them back on correctly. Remove the block, take it apart, inspect everything and clean it in lacquer thinner. Then use light grease to reassemble. You definately want to replace both tbe upper and lower seal while you are in that far.
Click on the link below for an old post that has a picture.
In addition to what I said there replace the lower seal too - #28 and both orings.
One of these days I'm going to make a comprehensive blog post about this with part numbers and instructions because these PS steering questions get asked so frequently.
They are very simple though and definately not beyond the ken of the average tinkerer.
Post back if you need more help.

Thank you for the information. I took my brothers 3000 steering post apart to fix an oil leak a few years ago, so some of it should look familiar. I'll tackle it after I rebuild the front end. Loader work has been hard on all the steering components. Also thank you for the diagram. I will defiantly be using it.
