881 trans problem found

Well, I got the tranny apart today and found my problem with C3. The big snap ring popped out of the groove on C3 drum and it looks like part of the teeth on the outer edge of the groove broke or was broke off prior to my dad purchase of the tractor and it finally jumped out so C3 could not engage properly. Seal rings on main shaft and C sun gear all look good. Planetary gears are not worn, thrust washers all look good as well.

Will have to check scrap yards for clutch carrier and get piston seals, some clutch plates for C3, a few gaskets and we can put her back together!

I may have one, if not NOS possibly used, but need to get back to farm to check. Have you got the original ORC transmission or has it been updated?

It appears that part never changed from '59 thru '64 models. I know I have one in a salvage transmission. I'm not sure, without pulling it out, what shape it's in.

I'll have to look when I get back and see if I have an NOS unit.

Hi Larry,

I checked the clutch plates and pistons today. Pistons are ok (C3 had outer seal ring shot naturally). However, I am in need of 7 plates with the splines on the inside(they have the lining on them).

I have 2 bad steel plates but I think those I will get new as the price is reasonable ($18/ea.).

Let me know how much for the clutch carrier and plates if you have them. My cousin is the owner of the tractor now and I will let him know your price and I will keep in touch with you.

Thanks,
Brian

I'd take $100.00 and shipping as is for the used carrier and clutches. Without taking the clutches apart, I would inspect the unit for any obvious damage before shipping. If I have NOS it would be a carrier only. Same deal, $100.00 and shipping.

Hi Larry,

I'll let my cousin know on the price(sounds pretty good to me!) and get back to you. I don't know if you can see my email address, it's suppose to be visible. If not let me know and I can give it to you.
