Hello
Long time reader first time poster. I recently bought a new (to me) 53 Jubilee. Runs great, needed minor stuff but after a recent oil change I am leaking oil from the front big time. Would you assume its the front oil seal on the cam shaft? Should I put a heavier oil in, would that help or do I just need to tear it down and replace? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Not much for us to go on there. It's
probably the front crankshaft oil seal as
the front of the cam is covered up by the
timing cover. Oil seal leaks don't fix
themselves so I'm thinking you're in for a
bit of wrenching - tin, radiator, front
bolster, governor, etc have to come off.

Sorry. Theres oil dripping from under the crankshaft pulley and I believe it's getting blown back by the fan down the side of the oil pan lip. It didn't leak like this before I changed the oil. If I overfilled or used a lower viscosity would that have caused it? Or do you think it's just coincidence. Once I get to the seal how hard is it to remove? Anything else you would change while the front was off. Thank you for your help

If it started to leak bad after you changed oil, and it is in fact overfilled, then yes, it might be a good idea to bring the oil level down where it needs to be. As for viscosity, what did you put in it? Myself, I'd go with conventional 15-40 except in severe cold weather. Seems like any time I use a synthetic on an older engine, it leaks more than it did before the oil change.
