ID transmission

I'm considering picking up a rear end and transmission. We have a 3550 with no 3 point or PTO. The rear end combo I'm looking at has these. I'm considering swapping the motor out of the tractor we have into this combo. I'm not sure what tractor the combo is from though or if this plan will work. It does have a 735 loader on it, which is what the current 735 has.

I attached a picture of the transmission casting number. Can y'all ID this transmission? Any idea if this hair brain scheme will work?

The rear end in the photo looks like it has
brake drums and 8 on 6" lug bolt pattern.
If so you would be building a 3500 as the
3550 had double reduction rear and wet
inboard brakes. It would all bolt together
but you would have a much lighter machine.
You would need the hyd pump that bolts on
the side of the engine and hydraulic lines
and you probably need the flywheel that goes
with the replacement transmission.
The tranny/rear end combo in the photo is
more likely from a 3400 or 2110.
Ford used umpteen different flywheels so
it's important to keep the original with the
trans.

All major componants will bolt up.
Lot of small details that could tie you up
though.
You cant have pto with shuttle shift - if
that matters. Splined coupler should be the
same but I can not say for sure.
Dunno if the ring and pinion on a single
reduction rear end would handle the slamming
of a shuttle shift.
Biggest thing is you are losing the much
heavier double reduction rear and superb wet
brakes for barely adequate dry brakes.
If that doesnt bother you then I would
replace the trans/rear end as a unit. And
again, don't forget the flywheel. That can
screw you up too.

The model number stamped into the flat spot on the transmission bell housing will tell us what transmission it is. That rear half of a tractor is most likely from a 3400 or 3500, so the model number would start with 340, C40, 350 or C50, followed by two numbers and a letter. The letter at the end tell you the type of transmission it has. Since it has the dual sticks, it could be a 6 speed (B), 8 speed (C) or a manual reverser (G - 4x4, or K - 6x4).
