Jubilee brakes grabbing

My Ford Jubilee had new brakes installed before I got it. After sitting cold they grab and lock up as soon as I touch them. After driving around for 5 minutes they perform normal the rest of the day. What should I be expecting to find when I tear them apart? Thanks for any help!

If they were just put on new before you got it, they will probably outlast you. Those shoes are meaty, and last a
loooooooooooong time.. like decades. Assuming the drum was not wore out already.. they can last too. So if the drum was
serviceable, and new shoes, you may not find much bad.

A couple things to look at first. 1, is the brake pedal returning good.. IE.. is it sticking or working with no, or reduced
spring pressure. ( if yes.. anything from a bad spring, missing spring, or a bit of rust could be hanging it up ).

Now.. that all said... You have 2 options.

the person installing the shoes may have adjusted them too tight, and/or not lightly chamfered the leading edge. Doing so can
make them grab, and once they do, they will self energize.

So.. you can try just backing them off a hair ( star adjuster manual brakes just like an old truck, get a big screwdriver, jack
up a wheel and click the star wheel thru the slot and test brakes by spinning tire by hand and activating pedal

or

You can tear into them for a looksee

I vote on adjusting them first.

If you find that adjustment helps but not enough, you may have to pull apart.. many times people pull em apart and take
5minutes with a rasp to chamfer an edge, and they are good for another 50 years

Thank you so much. I'm going to take your advice and get into the adjusters first. This is the kind of info I needed!
