passed a 335 this am on the way to the VA clinic. machine has a loader on it. were these good machines? pro/cons?

could not stop so all I know is what I saw from the road.

thanks.

I think these were like the 3400/3600 ag tractors. Around 40PTO HP if I recall. Others will chime in with more details I'm sure. I have looked at one at a sale and it favored the ag tractors to an extent.

Pretty much a Ford 3600, but has one more different transmission available than the 3600. It should also have the heavy duty industrial front axle instead of the old, light weight swept back front axle.

Steve,

I drive right past there every Thursday evening on my way to play Trivia at The Wing man. $6000.00 is a little high for that tractor for around here, which is probably why it is still for sale.

The 335 is the Utility chassis tractor in the 3600 series family, not the Industrial chassis model. The 335 replaced the 3400 Utility model in the 3000 series when the x600 series ag models came out in 1975. The 420 was the Industrial model that replaced the 3500/3550. The main difference is the front axle. The Utility models (3400 & 335) had the single piece front axle that was stronger than the adjustable front axles that the ag models had, similar to the axle that the 4 cylinder 1801 series and pre-1965 2000/4000 industrial models had, but the 3500/3550/420 Industrial models had even stronger front axles, similar to the 4400, which was the Utility model in the next size up, while the 4500 Industrial had an even heavier duty front axle.

I see it has the mandatory rectangular steel patch welded onto the loader arms...at least they are somewhat tidy looking, ones on mine looked like PO had to cut them with can opener.

They are pretty much asking similar prices for similar tractors here in central Texas (a diesel tractor with a FEL). If you are interested it go, and look it over, and make a cash offer. The worse thing they can do is say no.

I have a old 335 for the last 15 years.
3 cyl. gas and it's been very dependable.
Regular maintenance and one Hyd. pump.

I'm not a ford fan but it's a good solid tractor.

If you need it and get the price down buy it.

Gas or Diesel?
Gas $2500-$4500
Diesel &4500-$6500
Just my opinion.

From the warning sticker on the dash about not using ether when the manifold heater is in use I would assume that it's a diesel.

Maybe my price sense is off. I haven't been looking at the local market for the past year or so, and I just looked through the local craigslist and prices are higher overall than they were last time I paid attention to them, so maybe that asking price is in the reasonable range.

It looks to be a decent tractor.

Probably is a diesel and they
Bring more money around here anyways.

I really wanted a diesel but were $3-4000. more than I wanted
To pay for a part time property maintenance machine.

Good Luck

Tom
