861 power steering- any re-plate the column?

Hi,

tore down the steering on my 861. Mostly a disaster- worm gear is pretty pitted, crome is all abraded off the ball bearings and the column. I chemically derusted everything and reassembled and it works, but I was wondering if anyone here replated a rusted steering column? It seems like an idea to try, plus fresh ball bearings?
