1954 Jubilee pto shaft

Good Morning...
way too much snow this year. Sheared my bolts to the coupler which then also managed to chew up the ends of the splines on my PTO shaft.
It's the standard 34" 9/14 dia 6 spline shaft..
Here is what I am wondering. I got the new shaft but the gap between the coupler & shaft seems too far . Looking at the old shaft I have a good 1/4" or more space which makes me wonder if that is too little gripping surface on the splines once they are joined. I am not sure why or what to do about that.
Thanks for any info.

If your talking about the hyd pump drive set up for a loader that is not a PTO. And if you are there is more then one type and size. My 8N has one and so does my 841S but the 2 do not interchange with each other and the one on the 8N is shorted and has fewer splines then the one on the 841S. Plus any time you replace the drive shaft part you need to replace the drive hub or you will e replacing both very soon. Learned tha tthe hard way 30 or so years ago and found they both wear at the same time so if it starts slipping you need to replace both parts or your wasting time and $$$ big time

Yes , I am talking about the shaft for the pump for the front end loader. The guy I bought it from had all the original paperwork & all the paper work from parts he put on it.

I simply replaced the parts w/ the same parts. The shaft he used was the 9/1/4" I bought.

None of the paperwork covers the front end loader.

Thanks
