Ford 2910 Steering Column Leak (pics)

Hi all, I'm an MF guy, but I broke from the mold to buy a Ford 2910 about 5 yrs ago- its been an excellent tractor overall. I am looking to sell it now, as I have bought a loader tractor to replace it. This 2910 has a leak somewhere in the steering column, when the oil gets warm after running it for a while, it seeps out the top of the column and runs down. It didn't bother me as long as I had it, I simply made sure it had enough fluid at all times- but since I am looking to sell it, I want to know what is involved with repairing it. It only has 770 original hours on it. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? It does appear that someone has had it apart at some point, as the one steering part has the paint burned off from a torch. You can see it in the one picture.

Hi! I do not know if it is the same as mine (''70 & '74 2110 LCG) but it think the repair is the same. My '70 was pouring oil out of the top of the column and the PO tied a rag around it. You have to pull the sheet metal and pull the wheel and column and replace the seals at the bottom. It wasn't difficult, just a little time consuming. Good luck!

good looking tractor.

Just went through the same thing on my 3000. Bought the kit that includes a new seal plus a sleeve to renew the rub area on the shaft. Hardest part was getting the steering wheel off, ended up cutting it off and buying a new steering wheel. Other than that wasn't difficult just time consuming.

When our Ford 4610 did that, I replaced the filter inside the power steering pump and it cured it.
