I have a 1975 Ford 2000. It has a larger front axle and front wheel hubs. Also, it has a hand brake on the left side behind your foot. Does anyone know if this is an unusual setup or was this common. It was originally purchased by a township in Ill. I am told that it might be a loader front end. It did not have a loader on it when I bought it and it doesn't show signs of ever having had one on. Thanks for any info.

Is the style of front end you have.
If so, it may not be a 2000. Might be a 3400 as they had that style of front axle.
Why don't you post the 3 lines of numbers you'll find stamped into the transmission housing - just above and behind the starter.
With those 3 lines we can identify exactly what you have.

Handbrake on the left side is called the transmission handbrake. It was standard on tractors sold into some European markets where it was required, and was an option on tractors sold elsewhere. There weren't a large number of them sold that way in the US, but they aren't exceedingly rare either.

As Ultradog says, the heavier front axle may be off of a utility or industrial model, but there was no utility or industrial model in the 2000 series, so it would have had to been swapped from a model in the 3000 or 4000 series. Any of which would have required a swap of the bolster (front axle support) as well. I would suspect that the tractor is a different model than a 2000 and it just has 2000 decals on it.

Post some pictures of the tractor, including the front and rear axles, and see if you can find those numbers stamped in the flat spot behind the starter, or off of the foil sticker on the underside of the hood above the battery if the sticker is still there. If the tractor still has both the stamped numbers and the foil sticker, check to see that they have the same numbers, and if not post back both sets of numbers as well.

The numbers are C458624, Model B1023C, And engine #5C3B, so that makes it a 1975 2000. The front axle is not like the one that Ultradog sent. My two brothers have 3000's, and it is just that the wheel hubs on mine are bigger than theirs. Thanks for you replies, Ultadog and Sean.

Looks like a regular 2000 front axle. Wheels and tires look wider than standard, but the hubs don't look any larger than normal. Is there some sort of spacer in there maybe to set the wheels out wider so the wider tires don't rub the spindles?

Nope, no spacer. Those rims are from a Huebner chopper wagon and they have enough offset so spindles don't rub. Yes, the front axle does look like a regular one but if My brothers didn't have those 3000, I would not have realized that the wheel hubs are heaver. I have since talked to a cousin of mine whose father had a Ford dealership, and he said that it was an optional axle for a loader. Interesting. Her is a picture of our tractors. Thanks again for your input.

Interesting., I know that they made heavy duty front axle components for the 4 cylinder '01 and thousand series, but I did not know they did so for the 3 cylinder models. The parts site doesn't even show them for the 3 cylinder tractors, but they do show them for the earlier 4 cylinder models.

Yes, you are right. There is only one listed on the parts page. The transmission brake is shown however. Many models, and many different parts.
