Was tearing down the 134 with the hole in the block today, and realized I haven't been inside a Red Tiger in almost ten years, and I haven't been inside a 134 since I rebuilt my Jubilee in high school (25 years ago! ) Didn't all the Red Tigers use kep nuts (I think that's the right term) to keep the nuts on the rod bolts from coming loose? There aren't any one this one...that might explain the #1 rod cap coming off.

I've always called them pal nuts, just put rod bearings
in my 172 engine and used them. Finger tight plus 1/3 turn.

Last time I was in a red tiger was in the early 70's rebuilding dad's 850.
I had completely forgot about those nuts but yes your's should have them

I asked my favorite engine rebuilder about them. He told me that he prefers to rely on the stretch that the proper torque on nut give him.

Had an 1955 860 from 1966 to 1999 that had 4 pal nuts on and 4 pal nuts missing. Junked the engine in 2000, with a cracked head, a cracked block and a crankshaft that was beyond turning on the back main. Put a used engine in it Don't think the pal nuts were an issue on this at all.
