Thanks to the gracious help to many on the forum, I got my new to me to me Jubilee running great. Going through the well kept
documentation of the work performed, I found this hand written note and would like your comments as to what work might have been
performed at the dealer in 1986. Seems like a pretty low price that the owner termed an overhaul.

Parts
Witmer 243.81
plugs 6.30
filter 4.35
labor 70.00
cost of engine overhaul $324.00

Tachometer had 629.6, now has 842.9 hours on tachometer.
$324.46

The dealer's name is Witmer. It is a reputable dealer.

Looks like maybe a tune up that he paid alot of labor for

The labor rate around that time was probably around $25/35 HR. I doubt more, even then it would depend on the the location.

A full blown rebuild back then for a car/truck engine ran $800 you could buy a reman long block for around $400.

A transmission overhaul was around 2/400 depending on the type.

In 1982 with the interest rates @16% I brought a brand new house
1200 sq ft for less than 30K. We were trying to clime out of the hole Jimmy Carter dug.

My uncle told me that He got the engine of his 860 rebuilt three times in the fifteen years that it was his main horse. A friend who worked for him told me that to him a rebuild was a cylinder hone and new rings.

Agreed.. that might have been a cyl hone, new rings and new bearings, oil change and gaskets.. all in frame.

Parts price is about right for a rering kit back then coming from a dealer.
Labor doesn't add up for dealer work, dealer labor rate was over $20 per hour at that time which would have someone pulling the tin and tank, overhauling the engine and having it all back together in less than three or four hours.
I'd say the labor was for a local mechanic or neighbor to help with the rebuild, owner may have pulled the tin and cleaned parts while the mechanic did the engine work.
Another possibility is the dealer charged $70 labor for doing a valve job on the head and the owner rebuilt the engine himself.
