Ford 3400 no start

Finally had a chance to put the tractor back together after doing the alt conversion and various belts to fit, stock worked with my set up but a bolt that couldn't see made it to short. Found the issue after 4 belt changes lol.

Anyway, change the suction hose at the reservoir and filled the with 5 gallons of hyd. Fluid. I had the valve body off to get wiggle room to the pump and loosely bolted on. Tractor started right up but fluid puked from the valve body. Tightened the bolts and now the tractor just cranks

It was running like a song after the alt swap but the front pump and shaft were disconnected and out of the crank.

All new ignition parts and rebuilt holley carb. I did find the cork seal under the carb (for whatever the pop valve thing is) popped out and dangling. Figured huge air leak so I pulled the rest of it out. Tried to start then just cranks again.

I'd have to guess on half tank of gas, still gravity fed but fuel is making it to the carb and the coil wire is getting strong spark. Still have to test the plugs. Weather got pretty cold here but it's been tarped.

This damn thing is starting to get on my nerves haha. The trusty john deere 750 fired right up but it's small, 2wd and no loader

Do some simple trouble shooting.

#1 make sure you have a good blue/white spark at he center wire of the distributor cap and at all the plug wires that jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. If good spark go to

#2 make sure you have a good gas flow to the carb by pulling the carb drain plug and make sure it will fill a pint jar in under 3 minutes.

#3 pull the air intake tube of and hold your hand over the carb and make sure you have a good suction and that your hand gets covered with gas

Checked the tank, had about 2 inches of fuel in it. Pulled the drain plug on the carb again, nothing. Dumped 5 gallons in it and she fired up again. Need to stop procrastinating on the choke cable and fuel pump. Have the pump and filter but missing one net and gasket that go to the filter. They are expensive

Fuel gauge started working too. Funny how that goes haha, whodda thunk it

Ran good for a bit then started to stumble and miss and backfire. Then took a minute to restart. The coil was warm to the touch but not hot. Is this conventional behavior of a tractor that's been switched to gravity feed? It will idle all day but stumbles under after driving for a minute

Do you have any in line fuel filters in the line?? If you do throw it away and I bet your problem will go with it. But you should have a sediment bowl sett up on it with a screen to do the filtering

Only filter is the in tank filter. Previous over went gravity feed after the pump quit working. I have a new pump and sediment bowl, just need a nut and seal. Probably bite that bullet this week. I'll have to pull the alternator but that'd no biggie

The in tank filer could well be plugged up. Have a friend with a 4600 diesel that had the tank part clogged up and he could start it up but if he tried to use it ran out of fuel in just a couple minutes. I had to replace the whole in tank assembly because the stand pipe was broken off and clogged up

If you can take the line loose at the carb and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas out of it. Should flow fast enough to fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes. If it does not flow at least that fast it is flowing to slow to run the engine well if at all
