Ford 601 Workmaster Coolant Leak

I have a 601 Workmaster that started leaking coolant after our first hard freeze.... This is where the coolant is leaking from and only seems to be seeping out in below freezing temps. Trying to figure out what this part is where the coolant is leaking and the cause..... Whatever rubber seal / fitting this is appears to be aged and cracked... possibly the issue?

Yes somebody stuck a plug in there. It's not original. Go get the right freeze plug and instaLL. Or live with it til the weather warms up and install the new one.

Somebody probably had a block heater in there, and it failed. That's one of those crappy rubber expand-o plugs. They suck. Not a bad job putting a new freeze plug in, only tough part is draining the block down without making a mess.
 
Thank you for the help. I'll order the correct freeze plug. Why would this only occur in freezing temps? Nothing should be actually freezing and expanding in there should it?
 
When things start leaking like coolant after a good hard freeze there is a good chance your antifreeze is not as strong as it should be so you may have gotten a bit of a frozen block and you may have just gotten lucky that all that happened was a freeze plug need to be replaced. Seen way to many engines wit ha cracked block due to the antifreeze being to weak and the coolant then freezes and cracks the block and then you need a new engine. I have a couple old engines like that around here that frozen and broke the blocks on them
