Hi all, got a question that I'm sure has probably already been answered before,i have a 1964 Ford 4000 select o speed and I am trying to find the hydraulic filter for it,ive been searching for over a month and the Ford dealership couldn't even answer the question for me, I am really hoping somebody on here knows, when I remove the dipstick fluid shoots out of the hole, is it just because it is over full?

A 1964 4000 Ford will not have a hyd filter. But there was a hyd filter dealer install option, using a FL1A Motor Craft filter. Very few were ever installed.. I happen to have one on my 860 and one on the 960. Hydraulic capacity of the 4cylinder 4000 is 2 gallon. Way to much oil? Could be coming out an open dip stick hole. You are aware of 3 separate compartments, transmission, hydraulic and rear end?

Hey, thanks for the fast reply.no I didn't know there was three spots for fluid, I see the one under the seat, and the one behind the seat, this is my first tractor and the Ford dealer here in Nova Scotia doesn't know much about it, any help would be really appreciated,

In addition, the transmission level and fill plug is just a pipe plug below the front of your right foot rest.

Since your hydraulics are overfull, one might guess the transmission is loosing fluid through one of the rear seals or the lube pressure switch. This fluid would land in the hydraulic section causing the overfull condition.

Your overfull hyd reservoir prompted my remarks of 3 reservoirs. Ford's from 1939-1952 had one common reservoir filled at the top of the transmission. Any one not well acquainted with these small tractors probably fill hyd oil in the common reservoir. Thus perhaps your transmission is overfull .The transmission check plug is at your right heal about level with the step plate. Fill is in the transmission cover in front of you. Differential check plug is a third of the way up on the left side in the left axle housing. Fill is on top of the differential housing at the top right. Hydraulic check is the dipstick with the fill under the seat on the left.

ifyou have a rowcrop model there 2 ffinal drives that also need checkin

Sorry, but don't think you read this very well. He's got an SOS transmission. Therefore your description of transmission fill and check plugs is totally in error!

I further doubt that he's got an overfull transmission. If anything, I'd guess it to be low on fluid.

If you're looking for the S-O-S filter, it is available on Dennis Carpenter's site.

Yes, I mist the S-O-S part but what is he referring to with oil pouring out the dipstick hole? In his second post the hyd is not functioning. SOooo??? By not reading the story right and not getting the whole story, guess I'll call it a day!!!!!
