Manifold change

I recently bought what I thought was a 1950 8N but after further investigation looks like i have a 8N motor on a 9N trans and rear. Anyway i am trying to change out the manifold the one that was on it has what looks like some type of air intake nipple on the manifold the new one doesn't. After i replaced the manifold it seems that the motor now has no intake, so I'm wandering if this strange nipple is required???

Thanks for any input or help...

Bill

The air intake nipple on the old manifold was for running a vacumn milking machine and has nothing to do with the problem with the new manifold as long as the new manifold doesn't have one or is plugged.

Any ideas on what I should look into? Before the new manifold the air side of the carb would pull in on your hand, but now almost feels like it's blowing out. ..

Thanks

Sounds like from the land of almost right. Probably the bottom of the manifold is hitting the valve covers, I used a grinder and made a good bevel on that bottom edge, end of problem.
Good Luck

Does it start and run? Not a lot of info to go on. If it runs get a vacuum gauge and test it.

Almost sounds like the ports on the new manifold aren't lining up right with the ports on the head, and you're getting some pressure from the exhaust into the intake side of the manifold. Have you compared the new manifold to the old one to see if it's at least close to lining up the same?

Hey Everybody,
Thanks for the comments, Blue Jay, that grinding did the trick THANKS!!! Ole Girl is running really GREAT now, had to
grind the manifold and trim the gasket as well, but it is running 10x better than before. The old manifold was not just rusty
but was cracked and leaking VERY badly..

Thanks Again
