841D Rod Bearing

I had a noise on start up after I removed the oil pan I found #4 piston rod cap loose. the lock nuts was missing and I could remove the cap
nuts with my fingers. Upon closer look after the rod cap was off i found #4 crank throw very rough. My question is the most effective way to
resurface the crank. Second is there a way to resurface this without removing the crankshaft. I once had this done on my 1952 Chevy without
removing the crankshaft. I know you guys have run into this in the past any advice will be greatly appreciated .
Many Blessings this year

That is very unusual. You don't need to resurface it unless you plan to run it, :( . You will most likely need a new crank because the diesel cranks are hard surfaced and this surfacing is only a certain thickness, so they can be cut only a specific amount. Diesel cranks are over $2,000 so I would be looking for a used motor. If you decide to investigate more deeply you need to remove the crank and take it to an automotive machine shop for evaluation.

You can try this I used it on my SC with good results. Here's a link

Best of luck with it Byron

I have a standard/standard takeout crank with balancer gear I'll sell and ship anywhere in the lower 48 for $125. It needs a new home, bought for a project that never happened.

The connecting rod big end will likely need to be trued, inasmuch as it hammered. Take it apart now and have it examined by a machine shop. Or you can try to patch it now and then take the pieces to a shop later. Diesel is a whole different ballgame.
