NAA with Sherman transmission ?

I have a family pet of a Jubilee. Would like to have a low range for some backing up duties. Have no experience
with the Shermans. Thus:

A) Was a Sherman transmission offered for the Jubilee?

B) Was it a feature added to the existing rear end, or is it a unique rear end?

C) Is it feesible to add this to my tractor?

D) How much slower did the Sherman allow the tractor to travel ?

Thanx all !

Pete

A) Yes, it was. It was even available for the N series tractors.
B) The Sherman is an auxiliary transmission installed in the bell housing immediately behind the clutch.
C) I guess that depends on your definition of feasible.
D) I don't know how much, but its low range makes the machine significantly slower.

Bear in mind, my answers are based on an over/under version of the Sherman.

Here is the speeds to the combo curiosity of John Smith website

I don't know what duties you have in mind but remember that
since the Sherman sits in front of your regular transmission it
also changes the PTO speed. So if you were thinking of running
a snowblower or rototiller it may not be the best option.

Yes the Sherman was available for the Jubilee. Here's the ratios:

Step down was geared down by 1.513 to 1

Step up was geared up by 1 to 1.495

You can shift on the fly if you are proficient at double clutching.

Am I right Larry?

One may be able to shift the 4 speed on the fly by double clutching and throttling. The Sherman can never be shifted that way - I don't think!

Sure you can. Had a new Jubilee with Sherman at age 12. Developed a skill set to shift on the fly by double clutching and throttling. That's how
we got heavy loads (in those days) up to road speeds. Started in 4th underdrive, then 4th direct, then 4th overdrive. If good you didn't scratch a
gear.

I agree, Gene.

I've both 51 and 52 8Ns with Sherman combination transmissions. I've been shifting the 51 on the go since the mid 1970, and the 52 on the go since I bought it about 6 or 7 years ago.

Forget about double clutching unless you have a foot throttle.

Hummmmm.......

Appears this is a possibility for my Jube.

My need is I use the Jube to load old engines on my trailer with 3 point forks, by backing up on to the tandem axle trailer. Keeping enough throttle to keep the engine from stalling, while backing up the ramps, is a bit too fast for my comfort level.

Is this Sherman specific to the Jubilee, or were they universal?

What's the going price for these units ?

Thanx all !

Pete
