Been hearing about a late model 5000 with dual power not for from me that had been setting under a shed but was now setting outside, was told the engine is locked up.
Drove down to look at it today and talk to the owner about it.
What we found is a 74 model with dual power, load monitor and a M&W turbo kit. Sheet metal is straight, fenders have had the braces welded up, rear tires are shot and the exhaust flange that holds up the muffler is broke in half. Started raining while we where there so we'll go back again to look it over better, didn't get a chance to check the engine.

This is only the 4th 5000 I've seen with dual power and the first with load monitor, not that I need L/M but it seams their a little rare or are in my area.

Anyone know if many 5000's where produced with dual power and load monitor.

Tractor was built Sept, 74

Well, since it was optional on the 5600, I suspect it was also optional on the 5000 when this option first became available. Like you, I've seen a few DP 5000s, but I don't think I've ever seen a 5000 with LM. Also like you, I'd have little to no use for it.

Mine is a 5200 technically, it has dual power.

Didn't know they could have L M. My 7700 has that too, but I've never used it, as the dealer predicted when he sold dad the used 7700.

My nephew has a 7200 with DP and LM and my brother had a 7600 with both but this is the first 5000 I seen with both DP and LM, Don't know if the LM would add to it's value but for me the DP makes it worth a little more.
Years ago my brother had at 5000 with the M&W turbo, that was a nice add on.

I have a 74 5200 with the LM on it that my Dad bought back in the late 80's and I used it once back
then plowing some set aside acres. Didn't work too bad once you got it set but was a pain to set.
Would much rather of had the DP option. Grew up on a 65 5100 with a M&W setup on it and it would
out pull the 74 & not work up a sweat. My 2 cents worth Greg NE

I worked For the local Ford dealer in 72-75 and remember a load monitor being an option on the 5000. Later I ran across a 5200 with load monitor I wasn't interested because it was gas.

L/M is basically a draft control system for using semi mounted plows that don't use a top link like mounted plows.
Ford's draft control worked through the top link, with larger more powerful tractors pulling semi mount equipment the top link operated draft control didn't work, So Ford came up with the load monitor until they could design a better draft control system for larger tractors.

That's why it odd to see L/M on a 5000 that didn't normally pull semi mounted plows.

When back and looked the tractor over again today and talked to the owner and her brother.
Her husband passed away about 7 years ago, tractors been sitting for 8 or more years.
Tach shows 3608 hours and looks original but, rear tires are Safe Mark brand and have less than 10% tread, original tires would have been Firestone or Good/Year, so ether they've worn out two sets of rear tires in 3600 hours or the hours are not correct.

The Bad
Engines stuck, don't know why other than from setting, may come loose, may need a complete overhaul with new pistons.
Rear tires are shot, less than 10% tread
M&W turbo exhaust outlet is broke in half, no longer available.
Fenders are bent, bracing has been repaired and is rusted out again

The Good
Tractor is complete including the stabilizer bars and front weight rack, no weights
Straightest sheet metal I've see in years on a -000 series
Has dual power
Rear power adjust wheels have no rust, not even around the valve stem
Engine oil is full and black, no water
Radiator has anti freeze in it above the cores, no leaks

She said she'd been offered a little less the $5000 for it a few years ago before the engine stuck but wasn't ready to sell it then.
I told her I couldn't give anywhere near that amount with the engine stuck, if I had to do a full overhaul plus two 18.4-30 rear tires plus fenders and paint, I'll be throwing nearly that much back in it plus the purchase price.

I'm afraid I'll make her mad if I offer a couple grand for it, but I don't think it's worth much more than that, yes dual power adds to it's value but how much, I can buy a good running 5000 for around $6-7k

Told her I'd do some figuring on what it would cost me to get it going and try to come up with a offer in a few days, said she'd do some thinking on it too.

In the stated condition I wouldn't offer more than 1000 for it. Usually non runners are 500.... but it does have dual power... If you feel
happy at 2k I guess that can sweeten the pot.... but really... you could be into 6 (or more) for the engine if you decide to upgrade the
turbo and 3 for the tires... and that's if nothing else is buggered.

I just seen this today Feb 24th, but if you
bought this 5000 I have a good turbo and
manifold m an w off a running 5000 if you
need it. Also my dad bought a late model
5000 with dual power. We still have it.
Never seen another 5000 dual power in
person.

Good to know, I actually haven't done anything but talk to the other brother recently, been busy working on my 4500 but have had a couple of setbacks (noise in the trans and needs some brake work) so it's on hold again for a while until my other tractors and equipment are prepped for hay season.
No one seams to know how the exhaust elbow got broke or why the engines locked up.
At first I thought it was from setting, but I found a broken oil line that went to a aftermarket gauge The second brother didn't think it was ran out of oil but also didn't remember much about the gauge being there.
If it's stuck from setting it's fixable.
If it's been ran out of oil or had water down the pipe and froze (reason for the broken elbow), it's a parts tractor and not worth as much.

I need to get buck to her but I've been burn before on a tractor with a stuck engine, They said it had been sitting for a year and didn't know why it had stuck. It took a piece of oak 2x4 and a 8 pound sledge hammer to beat the pistons out of the block, must have been one long year.
