Ford 971 Select-O-Speed For Sale Asking Price?

I posted on here awhile ago asking what is a fair price for this tractor. I live near Midland, Michigan. Everyone requested pictures and more info, so I have included two pictures. If you want to see video of it running let me know and give me an email address and I will send (I couldn't upload.) It has new points, plugs, condenser, carburetor rebuilt, refurbished gas tank, newer manifold, exhaust, (and I think a new starter) and some other items I can't recall. It has power steering and is kept in the garage. Also has a 3 pt hitch and PTO. Runs good, tires are in good shape. No transmission issues. I am including the brush hog, rear blade, boom, and tire chains. Can anyone suggest what I should ask for this and where is the best place to list?

Hello Mrs. Diamond,

I used a website called Onecraigs to search all of Craigslist using search terms like "ford 901 tractor" and "ford row crop".

The following listings are examples of what others are asking for tractors similar to yours.

Of course there are other factors which could determine what buyers are willing to offer such as: condition, location, options, implements, ...

My general observation is that 800 900 801 901 tractors sell for $3500. give or take. Yours appears to be above average, add $500.00. Tires can affect price a lot, yours appear to be average, so no affect. Yours has the Select-o-speed transmission which while some like them more people do not, so minus $500.00. The transmission on yours appears to be the original ORC SOS, so minus another $500.00. If you post a closer pic of the rt side of the trans. I could verify the ORC. Definitely best place to advertise is Craig's list. I would advertise it at $3800.00 and be prepared to go down to $3200.00, If the condition is as you describe.

I see you got it posted as it came up in my daily craigslist tractor search, Lol. If I didn't already have a row crop I'd have to come up and buy it from ya. ;) Good luck selling!

Yes I did! Thanks to everyone for their help. The person from Tractordata.com helped me figure out the year and Shocrop on this site helped me set a price. Just looking for a fair sale for both me and buyer. Have to say it is a little tough for me to sell as it has been a good tractor, but I am planning on moving next year. Actually considered fixing it up for show at one time, but I have already invested almost as much as I am asking for it (even before I included the implements.) Please let anyone you know who may be interested. Thank you!

Mrs. Diamond,

One thing that a prospective SOS buyer will surely be interested in knowing is the condition of the bands in the transmission, even though you state that there are no problems. Sitting on the tractor, under your left foot on the vertical side of the housing is a large nut with a slotted stud sticking out of it that is threaded. On the opposite side, under your right foot are 2 more of those. Those are the three adjusting screws for the transmission bands that connect the planetary gear in the transmission to the output and provide power to turn the rear wheels.

If you have a lot of thread showing, it means that the bands are in great shape and that the pads (like brake pads for brakes) will not need replacing any time soon......way bigger job than doing brakes however. A couple of sharp focused, close in pictures could bring you a quicker sale and better price.

Okay ... thank you. I did not know that. Will come back to this post if I can't see what you are talking about.

ERRONEOUS! Two of these are on the left side. One is on the right!

Ok, my 20 year old memory got them backwards. Thanks Larry. You have pictures to show Mrs. Diamond what "we" are referring to?

Here's a couple I dug out of an old shop manual: (Note: Mrs Diamond, Band #3 on the right side of the tractor is plainly visible in your second picture. Looking at the speed selector look straight down till you get to the side of the transmission housing. The first dimple in the picture is the band adjustment mentioned. Get in as close as you can and still get a clear, focused picture showing the threads protruding above the nut. Then #1 and 2 are on the other side as shown in my left side picture.)
