134 engine vibration

I have a tractor I put together with a 134 engine from a 671 and an 850 back half, tractor has a vibration that's a little annoying kinda buzzes your feet on the floorboards. I used the flywheel from the 850 on the 134 engine, are they balanced different and not interchangeable? Just trying to come up with different possibilities, I think at this point I'm going to run it as our plow tractor for the winter either way since it's not that bad, just trying to figure out what could be going on.

I should note that before swapping the engine into the tractor I only ran it for a bit to check it out never drove it so don't know if it had a vibration already or if it happened in the swap

My mind wants to think that balanced, rotationally, is balanced.
That doesn't mean it's right though. It often isn't! LOL

If it turns out that you need a flywheel off a 134 I have one.
I'll donate it to your project if you want to pay the shipping.
Crank and connecting rods were bad in this engine but the
tractor still ran and drove fine. Hammered like mad.
It was in a '54 NAA. I haven't checked to see if they were the
same as x01 series. I would think not for the SOS models. ;)

Well royse I appreciate the offer, not
certain if that is my issue yet tho, the
parts site for nh seems to show same
flywheel for 134 and 172 but does show
different ones for both 9 and 10" clutch
which is expected, but also shows
different for serial numbers before and
after a certain number, so I'm wondering
what the difference is in them, maybe
has to do with block plate thickness, I
made sure to keep plate and flywheel
with the transmission so there wasn't a
mismatch that way. Also the engine in
the 850 has a remanufactured tag on it
so who knows what era engine that was.

Nope, bought it with no wheels and a
broken front axle, and 671 had a bad
selectospeed, I had run the engine but
wasn't sitting on it to really know if
it vibrated

I have interchanged fly wheels, a thick one to a thinner one. Difference is at SN 14256 ??? Saw no difference, but let me tell you of a circumstance you probably don't want to here. I had a vibration in a 172 that was noticeable for 1/2 a day pulling a 3/14 plow. After dropping the pan twice and pulling the REAR main bearing, finally found a broken crankshaft. Broken sig sag across the rear main throw so still drove the transmission. Hope that is not your problem. Good luck,

And when you say interchanged flywheels, thick to thin or also between 134 and 172 engines?

I just swapped a 134 from a 641 in to my 861 ran maybe 30 minutes i notched no vibration man that sucks yours vibrates .i also used double clutch and flywheel from 861 . the 641 had a single 4 speed .let us know what it is .had to pull radiator off waterpump leaking trying to make you feel better. Hope you fix it

So far don't see anything out of place, did find the engine was overspeeding a bit from a wrong adjusted governor so that made it more noticeable, but still definitely not as smooth as my other tractors. Engine does have a bit of a tick so wondering if maybe a wrist pin is a little loose and ticks at low rpm and vibrates at high rpm...for now it's getting run for the winter we shall see how it goes

Cab was off a Ford 8000 and hood and grill I made myself from old heating oil tanks

We were always told to keep the original flywheel with the engine that it came from if possible. Many engines are dynamically balance with flywheel and front pulley assembled.

I've always wondered if the 134 and 172 C.I.D. engines were balanced this way, I don't know - they are a low speed engine (2,200 - 2,400 rpm). I did not notice any tell tale holes drilled in the flywheel of the two I have seen disassembled. Anyone know if Ford did this to these engines?

Can't do that when swapping from
selectospeed to manual as the flywheels
are much different
