Had it with the Holly carb, gave in and bought a Zenith carbuorator to replace. Imagine the Zenith will need to be fiddled with from factory. Any diagram or suggestions on how to set being different from Holly. Also, forgot which way turning the distributor advances the timing? Thanks.

Fwiw, on our 3000's Zenith, I tried it, then pulled it off & raised the float level a smidge. But this is on a high-hour/low on compression engine. Been running like a champ for at least 7-8 yrs, haven't had to touch it since then. Don't remember about distributor, put electronic unit on at same time & haven't touched it, either.

Turn the distributor body opposite of rotor rotation.

There are no ideal presets for carburetors. You must adjust every carburetor to the engine.
