961 vs. Massey Ferguson 50 or 65

Been looking for a decent 961 but just not having any luck. I see plenty of MF around that are in decent shape. Pro's, Con's?
Unless of course one of you want to part with your 961.........
 
There is one for sale in the Louisville KY Craigslist
And in the Cincinnati, OH Craigslist

Just did a search for Ford 961 only found those around, you are right not too many for sale
Both looked well used

Question why those narrow front high frame tractors, are you planning to do a lot of cultivating?
 
The MF 50 is a bit less power than a 961, while the 65 is probably a bit more. Neither are particularly collectable.

Diesel versions of either are more valuable as workers as both have highly regarded Perkins diesel engines. Gasoline versions use Continental engines and parts are becoming more difficult to find and expensive.

Both tractors use sliding gear rather than constant mesh transmissions like the Ford and are known to stick in two gears at the same time if shifted out of reverse quickly. Usually they can be freeded up by rocking back and forth while prying on gears with a large screwdriver through the oil filler hole. You will find the MF sliding gear transmissions rugged but not as user friendly as the constant mesh transmissions used in the Ford.

I believe that live and non live PTO versions of each were produced.

PS systems are problematic and expensive to repair.

As workers, the 65 will probably do as much work than a 961 while a 50 a bit less.

Make me an offer on my 961 if still interested. The worst I can do is say no.

I had a Diesel MF 65 and absolutely hated it. It had a lot of power, but just didn't seems to have a good way to put the power into use. Worked with an MF gas 50 some,
and liked it better. I have a 961 now thanks to some help searching from members on here. Pretty much my favorite tractor ever. Like the row crop, like the power,
gearing, yadda yadda yadda. I'm sure Mf's are very good tractors, and a lot of people like them, I just like the 961 a lot better.

MY 65 and 50 were pretty tough tractors, one of MF'S best at the time. Can't beat
either diesel for fuel economy. Ben
 
I had a 960 ford and late 65 Massey Ferguson diesel. Wish I'd never sold the 65. Had good power to pull my square baler and haybine. The Perkins engine hardly used any fuel. Good weight to power balance, and the multipower was nice, kind of like a TA in a Farmall. Only thing I didn't care for was the hydraulics quick when the pto does and the pto is two stage clutch like the ford 960 will have. Clutch pedal half way down stops the transmission, all the way down stops the pto.
