Fuel valve 1962 4000

Getting dad's 4000 ready to push snow. Noticed the lever type fuel shut off was leaking but only in the "on" position. I have found them priced everywhere from $26.00 up to 54.95.

Is there a good brand of shut offs?

I have three of the 601 series screw valves they don't fit the 4000.

I have two tractors with lever type shut off valves.

Sometimes they last a couple of years and sometimes they leak or fail to shut off right out of the box.

Avoid fuel additives, especially Stabil, and add a bit of oil to the stem when open every once in a while and they tend to last longer.

The good news: They can be changed without removing the tank, sheet metal or valve cover. I have become very good at doing so and can R & R one in about 20 minutes not counting R & Ring the gasoline. Add another 30 minutes for the fuel.

Sorry. I failed to answer your initial question.

I've tried about all of them and have had better luck with those with the CNH name on them but have had one or more of those leak right out of the box as well.

As said.. no great ones.. some better than others. Only option is to buy from a good vendor... not uncommon to leak right out of the box!
