Water temp unit

In process of separating ford 600. Unthreaded nut holding tube in at back corner of cyl head. Looks like copper tube broke and part of sensor still in the head. How to remove and replace? The threaded part came out but the the tube would not budge and broke rather easily. Hoping not to remove cyl head. Thanks in advance......

There is pretty much nothing holding it. Just a little rust-corrosion. It is just a very thin walled copper bulb. I just drive a large screwdriver into it, and give the handle a tug sideways and it falls out.

Ah, that just happened to me -- the stupid capillary tube broke off the temperature sensor bulb when I tried to remove it from the block. Apparently it doesn't take much to stick the bulb to the casting (and even less to snap the tube off the bulb). I ended up just using a needle-nose plier to grab the bulb. A decent tug and it popped free. Like Showcrop said, once you remove that threaded retainer, nothing's holding the bulb in the block but corrosion.

Downside is, now we need new temperature sensors . . . .

Thanks....yes, looks like just pretty "gooped" up in that small hole.

Does the new one come with the "threaded" part that screws back in the head or does that get built on to the new temp sensor when I buy it?

Almost ready to separate the tractor....

if you have something to grab hold of with needle nose, do that. a screw screwed intot he bulb can help give you something to grab hold of.

The new gauge/sensor assembly will come with the threaded retainer already in place. All you need to do is position the bulb and screw the retainer into the block to secure it.
