Hydraulic piston pump issues

Hi folks, while I was trying to get the race out of the gear housing on my piston style hydraulic pump, I damaged the metal sleeve inside the housing. It's rough and I was wondering if it would still work if I used a dremal tool to sand it down smooth again? I mean as long as most of the sleeve is still there I don't see why it would matter, its behind the race, no contact with the wobble shaft. I really don't want to dish out the money for a new casting, any help would be great.

mhb, I think you nailed it. Good catch. Tyler, I would check the wobble shaft for wear at the needle bearing journal and check the tapered roller bearing for abnormal wear. The front end of the shaft could have been deflecting and throwing the whole shaft off-center.

All of the bearing have been removed, the needle bearing was broken and I got a new wobble shaft, but my pump is the new style with the tapered bearing. So to get the seal and needle bearing out I had to remove the race, when I did my weld was off and I damaged a metal sleeve so I can't put the new race in. So I was wondering if I could just sand that sleeve flush again, and but the new bearings and race back in without having issues?

Perhaps the outside shell of the seal is still there. You should be starting with a bare cast iron housing.

I believe you're right, that seal came out in bits and pieces so I'm willing to be that's the issue. Thank you all for your help
