Greetings Ford tractor lovers, my 5200 is still equiped with the problematic orginal style generator that ford used back then. I had the gennie and regulator at a shop last spring and they got it going. It has ran all spring but now its done. I am now going to an alternator and wonder how im going to run my tack?Im not worried about my dummy lights, fuel guage etc, but need to have my tack running, as i use the tractor to pull a sprayer. Anybody know how to hook up the tack with a alternator?

you can get an alternator with a tach drive. I dont know if available on this site. I saw a kit on fleabay for around $125.

There are generators available made for the '65-'75 Ford tractors that have tach drives, but they are pricey. Someone on here mentioned a while back that an alternator for another brand of tractor, which had a tach drive, could be used as well, and they were less expensive. I think that it was a Massy but I can't be sure.

They have them on this site, I ordered one a few days ago, they're a few dollars cheaper than the ones one ebay when the shipping cost are added.
I have one on my 5000 that I converted this spring, tach is off a couple hundred, I used a digital tach on the pto and 540 pto rpm showed 2000 engine rpm, when I use pto powered equipment I just set the tach on 2000, it's no big deal.
When I get this one installed on my 4000SU I'll check it also so I'll know where to set the tach for the proper 540 pto.
