3610 Ford voltage regulator

You can test the generator its output is around 2volts.Or you can test the system at the battery. My voltage regulator wasn't letting the volts get to the battery.I had output from just the generator, and after a new regulator I put my meter on the battery it showed more than the 12.6 after a full charge from my battery charger.

3610??

Should have an alt. Gennies went extinct with the 000 series pretty much.. Then came the x600 series, then the x610, etc..

Is this a small square box, Motorolla solid state reg or the old Lucas contact regulator for the generator? A 3610 should have the 32 amp
Motorolla alt with the solid state reg...
The basic test for that is to see if the system charges at 14 volts... If it doesn't, full field the alt and see what it makes then. You may
find a bad regulator if it does charge fully when full fielded.

While most modern alternators have internal regulators, the Motorola alternators they used on the x600 and x610 series still required an external regulator.

How do I full field the alternator?

reen wire.

As best I can recall.... there will be a wire with a 90 degree blade terminal on it... pull that off and hook battery voltage to the blade on
the alt and it should charge.... so basically just a jumper from that terminal to the large terminal on the alt.

I just took apart the regulator on my 3500..probably the same one you have. My gen light was staying all the time the tractor was running so i was told to jumper between the Bat. (B on Reg.) and the armature of generator( D on the reg.) If the light went out he said i have an open contact in the regulator. I cleaned the three contacts in there and checked continuity thru the contact's. All were good after the cleaning. Now the Gen light is off when running. Maybe yours needs a good cleaning.
