5000 8spd Trans problem

Hi all, I was on my tractor yesterday just using a rock rake when I got stuck in reverse, I was lucky enough to slip it out but when I put it in 6th, nothing happened, so I put it back in reverse, nothing again, 5th worked, and 7th worked but momentarily, it knocked tally bad, so I clutched it and turned it off till my panic was over, while in neutral, it won't start without the clutch pushed, cause it acts like it's in gear, when I try to move the tractor it acts like it's gonna roll but it either dies or starts popping in the transmission, any ideas what's wrong?

Broken 2nd-R shift fork.

Thanks Bern, I guess it's time to get it to the shop if I can get it loaded, it's still in the pasture

Probably a broken fork as Bern suggests.... but given the popping and banging going on.... probably a lot of broken gears too. That will be ugly when you take it apart.

Have fun that fork is on the bottom, and it requires a double split to get everything out of the case so you can replace the fork.
And another note is there have been changes to the internal parts over the years. Depending on which gears you may need the new parts may not work with the old ones. Tooth count is different if I remember correctly.
