Ford 2000 tranny swap

Just purchased an (early, i guess) 3 cyl 2000. It runs faster than i want it to, so from reading on this board the best way out is to do a 8 speed or 10 speed swap. What is required for this swap, besides the flywheel/PTO shaft from the donor? Or regarding the PTO, would the adapter sold here work?

Don't get carried away. You won't gain much at all. The slowest Ford tractor of
that vintage would be one of the later Dextas. They were called Ford 2000 in the
American market, but standard tranny was 6 speeds.

I believe I need to clarify. The tranny is a 4 speed that is way too fast in first to even now, which is why I bought the thing to begin with. I think I need the 8 speed due to the year. I'll get the s/n as soon as I can

It wouldn't be a hard swap.
Remember that the flywheel and clutch always
stays with the transmission. Always.
Pto shaft and lever must change. All twin
stick pto shaft/levers are the same but not
4 sp.
No 'adapter' sold here will help you.
And yes, you would definately slow it down.
From the original owners manual:
1st gear @ 1000 rpm
4 sp = 2 mph
6 sp = .7 mph
8 sp = .8 mph
I don't know where you are located but if
you did this reasonably soon there is a guy
on Minneapolis Craigslist looking for a good
4 sp. Might be able to sell your old one to
him to offset some of your cost.
I would not put a 10 sp SOS in it.
PS, Welcome to the Ford board.
Those are great small tractors.

You might want to think about trading tractors, a good used 8 spd is pricey and if I was doing it I'd want to put in a new clutch while it was apart.
A good used trans, new clutch along with gaskets and seals needed to complete the job will have you spending around $2000+ with you doing all of the work.

3 cyl is a late 2000. If you want to roto till and are dead set on swapping transmissions rather than looking for a different tractor, your best swap would be to a 10 speed SOS.
