Fordson Dexta

I am looking at a Fordson Dexta not running. It has a good paint job but that could be a cover up for something bad. good tires, all the metal is straight, no power steering, The people said it had been on a deer lease and they got it started once and now it wont start. Not sure of the year model but it has a 3 cyl diesel engine. Hope this is enough info for some help.

My question is what is it worth?

Thanks
Floyd

Good solid little tractor but you may find spares a problem over there. Gearbox and back end pretty
bulletproof although they do get some wear on the bottom of the gear sticks which can be built up with
weld. Hydraulics and rear axle are similar to some of the Fords you have over there, they came from the
same design.

Engine is a combination of Ford and Perkins design, it was made at Dagenham in the Ford factory and
assembled at Perkins of Peterborough. It has a cold start system which allows you to spray fuel onto a
heater element in the manifold using a primer on the fuel tap. If the heater element and primer are
working they start easily. If however they have not been used and ether has been used to start her then
you could have major problems. On these engines, use of ether causes piston ring and piston breakup and
bent rods. Engine parts are similar but not always the same as some MF tractors and can be used.

Here in the UK they are a much sort after tractor and many still in use on small farms. they command a
pretty high price for a good one with good tinwork even with a poor engine. In the US they are cheap.

You can buy them in that condition from dealers for about $2,000 and you know they paid less.
They never had power steering. They have one good feature, they run slow in low gear,
so they are nice for rototilling. They also have a bad feature, difficult to get on and
off, unless you are a small guy.

(quoted from post at 03:59:47 11/15/16) Does the Dexta have the same engine as a 3000 or 4000

No, the diesel Dexta's used a 3 cylinder engine that was a collaboration between Ford and Perkins. The gasser Dexta's used a 4 cylinder engine that tractordata says was made by Standard. The Standard engine was originally designed for Ferguson tractors and was later used in passenger cars as well.
